The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria both express deep concern over a new law in Nigeria that further criminalizes LGBT people, organizations and activities, as well as people who support them, according to a joint statement. Both organizations are concerned that the law will adversely affect access to HIV services, including prevention and treatment, for LGBT Nigerians. In 2011, all U.N. member states committed to removing legal barriers and passing laws to protect people affected by HIV.
