Matt Bomer’s role in The Normal Heart earned him a Golden Globe for best supporting actor in a TV miniseries or movie, People magazine reports. Bomer played a closeted New York Times reporter who dies of AIDS-related illness. The HBO film is an adaptation of Larry Kramer’s 1985 play about the early years of the epidemic in New York City.

In his acceptance speech, Bomer said, “To all the people we lost from this disease, I just want to say: We love you, we remember you.” He also gave a shout-out to his husband, Simon Halls, and three kids, saying, “I want to thank you for putting up with me when I was 130 lbs. and really grumpy when you ate pizza in front of me.”
