The government of Malawi has stopped enforcing laws that criminalize homosexuality, Pink News reports. The parliament is debating whether to repeal the current legislation, which allows for sentences of up to 14 years in prison for those convicted. In response, the justice minister argued for a temporary suspension of enforcement since any arrests during the debate would be “an embarrassment” if the parliament does indeed repeal the law.
