Finding out whether you have hepatitis C virus (HCV) is getting easier—with OraSure Technologies’ OraQuick HCV test, the first rapid HCV test in the United States. (At press time, an early 2009 FDA approval was expected.) The new test can detect HCV antibodies in blood or oral swabs in 20 minutes, instead of the four- to seven-day wait for results from current antibody tests. This will eliminate that awful waiting—and help ensure that people stick around to get their results.
