A federal judge on April 27 ordered New York City to halt its plans to cut funding to the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) that would have eliminated 254 case managers, according to the Housing Works blog. Magistrate Judge Cheryl Pollak told the Bloomberg administration it has 30 days to show that the cuts will not happen or she will issue an enforcement order. If the city makes the cuts, she will hold the administration in contempt. HASA serves about 45,000 low-income HIV-positive New Yorkers and their families with rental assistance, Medicaid and food stamps. A 2001 federal court order mandates that HASA must have a case manager-to-client ratio of one to 34.
