The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has committed $11.4 million to support voluntary male circumcision in Zambia to reduce HIV rates in the country, Zambia Daily Mail reports. Officials are working with chiefs and traditional leaders to implement the procedure widely among communities that do not usually practice male circumcision. Studies have shown that male circumcision can reduce heterosexual transmission of HIV by up to 60 percent.
