Flooding from Hurricane Sandy has destroyed the daytime-only drop-in center for homeless LGBT youth run by the New York City–based Ali Forney Center, The Advocate reports. Located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, the lease for the space was going to expire in January. The opening of a new 24-hour drop-in center in Harlem that was already going to open in a few months will proceed on schedule. The immediate concern is providing services—such as food, clothing, showers, medical care and HIV testing—to homeless LGBT youth until the new location is open.
