ViiV Healthcare, an HIV company formed by Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline, has established a pharmaceutical manufacturing partnership with Russian drugmaker Binnopharm, Reuters reports. This follows a pledge by a dozen international pharmaceutical companies to invest more than $1 billion in Russia as the country tries to reduce its dependence on drug imports. Industry research group Pharmexpert says that the Russian market for HIV drugs topped $500 million in 2010, with more than half of those sales coming from two manufacturers—GlaxoSmithKline and Abbott Laboratories.
