A gay, HIV-positive New Jersey man is suing Catholicteaching hospital Trinitas Regional Medical Center for allegedly denying himtreatment and visitors, Courthouse News Service (CNS) reports. The man, JoaoSimoes, claims that after a preliminary evaluation with a doctor, in which hedisclosed he got HIV after having unprotected sex with a man, the doctor leftthe room and no subsequent doctors or nurses were sent in. Simoes says that hisrequest for HIV medication was denied for three days, visitors were turned awayand the doctor made disparaging remarks such as, “This is what he gets forgoing against God’s will.” Simoes is seeking punitive damages fordiscrimination.
