May 17 is the seventh annual International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO), a day recognized in more than 50 countries around the world, according to a statement from the IDAHO Committee. Events include a Latin American campaign to dispel “therapies” and “cures” for people who don’t conform to heterosexuality and gender norms, LGBT mobilization in China and Japan, and organized events in the LGBT-unfriendly countries of Iraq, Indonesia, Uganda and Sri Lanka. And to spread the news, pop star Lady Gaga will serve as acting editor-in-chief of the free daily newspaper Metro.
