As many HIVers triumphantly leap into 2004, we also mourn the loss—in one week—of three long-term survivor AIDS activists and one esteemed artist: Evan Ruderman, 44, Health GAP cofounder, feminist trailblazer for blue-collar women and one of the first unionized female electricians in New York City, died of AIDS November 18 (see “Work 2000,” POZ, January 2000)…L. Joel Martinez, 50, Center for AIDS founding director and treatment advocate, died of cancer November 12 in Houston… Treatment activist Carlton Hogan, 42, a clinical-trials statistician and Coalition for Salvage Therapy member, died of AIDS in Minneapolis November 18...HIV positive actor and dancer Gene Anthony Ray, who starred as Leroy in the 1980 film and TV series Fame, died November 14 in New York City at 41 from stroke complications.
