A federal judge has ruled that Howard University can proceed with its lawsuit against former dean Belinda Watkins over costs incurred by her discrimination against an HIV-positive subordinate, Courthouse News Service (CN) reports. Upon learning that assistant dean Daniel Goodwin was HIV positive, Watkins turned a blind eye to harassment against Goodwin, publicly revealed his status to students, refused to allow him to change his office hours and made false defamatory statements to argue against renewing his contract. Goodwin won a $253,000 settlement against Howard University. Now the university, located in Washington, DC, is suing Watkins for fraud.
