Ethiopian HIV testing campaigns have demonstrated a tenfold increase in the number of people tested each year since 2005, IRIN News reports. In 2005, only 2 percent of women and men in Ethiopia had been tested, but today, nearly 36 percent of women and 38 percent of men have been tested for HIV and received their results, according to the nation’s Demographic and Health Survey. In addition, the survey found that HIV prevalence has remained relatively low countrywide, at 1.5 percent. However, in many urban areas, the HIV prevalence rate is 5.2 percent.
