A coalition of advocates has published an open letter to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) asking the CDC to take a stance against HIV criminalization, according to a statement by the Center for HIV Law & Policy. The coalition includes the Positive Justice Project at the Center for HIV Law and Policy, the HIV Prevention Justice Alliance and individual activists. The letter requests a clear account of the CDC’s position on HIV criminalization laws and policies. The letter also requests that the CDC provide more information about HIV transmission on its website, cdc.gov, including statistical data on actual routes and risks of HIV transmission. The coalition asks the CDC to issue a statement by July 13 that definitively states the U.S. government does not support HIV criminalization.
